Wheaton Regional Park-Another cheap Silver Spring date.

Wheaton Regional Park is located in Wheaton, Maryland, and managed by Montgomery County. The park was established in 1960, incorporating several large parcels of land into one of the county's largest parks (536 acres [217 ha]). It offers a variety of recreational opportunities, including hiking, horseback riding, and ice skating. It includes a number of major subparks, including Brookside Gardens, Brookside Nature Center, and the F. Frank Rubini Athletic Complex.

The park includes the Harper Family Log Cabin. This one and a half story log house was dismantled and reassembled in the park as a "pioneer cabin" exhibit. In the late 19th century and throughout half of the 20th, it was the home of an African-American landowning family. It contained one room down and two up and had a large stone fireplace with a brick stack. The parents raised a total of 15 children in this three room house, though not all children lived here at the same time.

It is also the home to the Ovid Hazen Wells Carousel and a miniature train. The train is a replica of an 1863 C. P. Huntington engine and passenger cars; it takes passengers on a short tour of the park. The Herschell Spillman Company 1915 turn-of-the-century musical carousel has 33 jumping horses, 3 zebras and 2 chariots. The train and carousel operate weekends only in April and September and daily from May through August.
